What's the difference between traditional installation and certified window installation?

Traditional window installation: the same as it has been for 40 years

  • How it works - The classic system is still widely used and is practically the same as the one used 40 years ago. How does it work? The window and door installer installs a subframe on three sides of the window opening, then seals it to the wall using mortar directly. The subframe is often still made of wood or sheet metal;
  • Critical issues - Silicones and sealants are used to join the frame and the subframe, materials that aren't durable over time, leading to the risk of cracks and a lack of insulation at the joint. It's easy to see that the traditional system isn't designed to ensure long-term insulation, and condensation often builds up, leading to mold. If you have a north-facing window and the corners of the wall are black, you know what we're talking about.

Certified window and door installation with PosaClima

  • How it works - This innovative system was designed in the laboratory to ensure durability and insulation over time. The system requires the use of PosaClima-certified techniques and products such as: thermal and structural subframes, elastic and durable sealants for primary and secondary joints, and insulation panels. You can find all these products in our online store;
  • Regulations - The PosaClima certified installation system complies with the UNI 11673-1 standard of 2 March 2017.

What are the advantages of the PosaClima system?

Now that you understand the difference between the classic installation system and the certified window installation , let's look at all the main advantages together:

  • Energy saving: because the connection between the window frame and the wall is made according to the rules of the art;
  • Easy construction site: because the products are specifically chosen to work together, and the techniques are designed to integrate together during the construction phase;
  • Durability over time: PosaClima materials are of the highest quality and durability over time is guaranteed;
  • Insulating counterframes: PosaClima is built with thermal and structural counterframes that guarantee insulation between the frame and the counterframe;
  • Low cost: to allow any installer-window fitter to carry out certified installation on any building site, especially in residential settings, for houses, apartments, condominiums;
  • Studied in the laboratory: performance is measured and analysed in the laboratory, so that the certified installation can be the best ever.

Can I use the certified installation also for renovations?

Absolutely yes. We recommend using the PosaClima system for:

  • New homes: this is definitely the easiest option. You start from scratch, aiming for minimal waste and maximum energy efficiency.
  • Home renovations: when new window openings are planned, it is possible to install new windows and doors using the PosaClima certified installation system.

What does the certified window installation system consist of?

The certified installation of the window frame is mainly made up of 3 elements:

  1. Thermal counterframe: without thermal bridge;
  2. Primary node: between wall and counterframe;
  3. Secondary node: between window frame and counterframe.

1. Thermal and structural counterframe

The subframe must be thermal and structural . This is the main requirement for the correct, certified installation of the window or door. "Thermal subframe" means that the subframe must not have thermal bridges around the frame, which would lead to the passage of air and steam, condensation, and mold. In our online store, you can find various types of thermal subframes for certified window or door installation.

2. Primary node between wall and counterframe

The subframe isn't everything. To ensure thermal and acoustic insulation between the wall and the subframe, there are special elastic barriers that adapt to the wall. These products comply with the UNI 11673-1 standard. On Windowo, you can find various models of PosaClima insulation barriers for sale.

3. Primary node between windows and counterframe

Finally, to insulate the joint between the window frames and the thermal subframe , there are specific PosaClima systems. The main one, which you can purchase in our online store, is called PosaClima Premium Plus, compliant with the UNI 11673-1 regulation. In fact, some installers still use traditional foam and silicone between the window and the subframe. The PosaClima system guarantees complete insulation.
